The united Midlands – Queribus & Albigan

the envious siblings

The oak grew broad, the oak grew wide
unharmed by wind or hostile tide
rooted deep in solid soil
let all it's enemies recoil

it bind'th together there and here
sparketh joy and spaketh fear
and in it's shade two siblings merry
keep fightin' ov'r a moltaberry

Queribus

Monsegor - QueribusQueribus, the highlands – ten terms we hath to describe what ye'd simply call the oakleaf of Alltnaduirfogg and ever a cool breeze brusheth the ridge, no matter what season ye travel.

Alltnaduir – homeland of the ruling clan, where Monsegor, the MCGreggors' ancient stronghold, fit into cloudcasted rock, stubbornly as the ould Earl himself maintaineth its position against all tempest. Alltnaduir – Duir, as is called the oak aroundour lands, is a symbol of strength and endurance. It is the power needed to overcome all tests and even if the tests prove too great, so it was handed down, the power of the oak wilt make a hero of one who knoweth it.

The oak is a symbol of fate and fatalism - as reflected in the tales of both Dairmud and Deirdre. The D-few is a gateway to inner realms, a sign that reveals the truth about the past layers of action. This revelation gives strength and vision to the person who would see beyond the horizons of time both into the dim past and into the far future.
In fact the oak, as a sign for the balanced, empowers synthesis of all opposites.

Albigan

Borges, typical townBorges.. well.. Borges is the landscape our tourney is situated in -- warm, rather dry.. mediterranean climate Trees a bit smaller than around the cooler area of Queribus, many shrubs with leathery, waxy leaves to protect them from the scorching sun.
We have mountains around Borges too.. imagine the area of the french 'Massif central' -- up on the graniten mountains it is a bit cooler and you have taller trees like beeches and a few oaks -- around deforested slopes you find large areas of broom (gorse) and some spots of heather while on the other hand we also have the 'causses' -- the less fertile
dry plateaus above limestone -- like the one the tourney is situated upon -- that mainly serve for sheep breeding.

The Borges plains however, the plains outside the river glens are splendid lands for viniculture, fruit-growing, aromatic herbs (Lavande) turnesols (sunflowers), olives and so on. In the whole Albigan is a wonderful country.. the landscape's colours shine intensely and bright, the fragrance of rosemary and thyne pervadeth the air and the people hath that certain savoir vivre of the midi. They know no haste or ambition but leisurely enjoy
their lives -- meeting in the streets with a god cup of zichoria, playing boccia or just chat a bit while the sun is still too hot to work in the afternoon. *sighs* Oh yes.. I'd like to be there for a while.
