Starting
as a few huts and villages scattered through the torrid regions of Othala,
the Manuia'Tao (Island of Fire) Clan has grown much in the span of one thousand
years. The Clan derives it's name from the region, the deadly volcanic island
which they live upon. This island consists of jungles, mountains, white sandy
beaches, and nine Parah'Tael(volcanoes) - one of which is inactive, Mt. Latinon.
Latinon was the name of the first Faae'Tae (King) of Manuia'Tao, the first to unite the three tribes of people that called the small island home. These three tribes would war with one another, causing much death and destruction, until the Tael(gods) grew angry and the greatest of all nine volcanoes threatened to shatter the island. It was Latinon that had the power to calm the volcano and save the island. The three tribes joined with Latinon, bringing prosperity and peace to their people.
Where there were separate villages for separate people, now the villages that speckle the Island consist of all three tribes, though the differences between the three are as evident today as they were a millennia ago.
The fiercest of the tribes are the Ta'Tae'Oah, a tribe of men that dominated Manuia'Tao. During the day, they live the lives of tropical fruit farmers and wild animal hunters. They live in huts made of bamboo and palm leaves, and live quiet, docile lives. At night, however, they take up bows and arrows and other such weapons and hone their ancestral warrior instincts. They are ruthless, bloodthirsty savages when in their circles and meetings. However, there has been peace in this region for many years, and the Ta'Tae'Oah will only attack when threatened. They have medium brown skin, brown eyes, have deep, guttural voices.
Though not as strong, but just as deadly, are the Tao'klo'Sha'Oah. Originating
from the vast lava fields, barren and black fields resulting from volcanic
eruptions, this tribe of women pass on the teachings and histories of Manuia'Tao.
They find their strength in their Klo(magic), the ability to see into the
hearts of men and foresee the possible future. They are the teachers, historians,
and Priestesses of the Elie'Tao, the Temple of Fire atop the dormant Mt. Latinon.
They are black in skin colour and believed to be immortal.
The third and final tribe, are the La'Mehi. These bronze-skinned, dark-eyed beautiful people are the descendants of Latinon. Artist, musicians, tribal dancers, and fishermen, all royalty of the Manuia'Tao Clan come from these people. They are strong, beautiful, brave, wise, and long-living. They are the ideal combination of the other tribes. It is believed that the Tael created Latinon to be their chosen, a man with the strength of both tribes with none of their short coming.
Moving southward from the pristine white beaches, the jungles takes hold of the Island only to end abruptly a half days hike from the shore. It is there that Mt. Jordan rises, and where begins the lava fields. Locals flock here, atop this dormant volcano, to the Elie'Tao. Inside a grand, open-air temple they come to worship and give praise to the other eight volcanoes that are still active, that still give off the wondrous and energy-giving fiery lava that keeps the people of Manuia'Tao in such good health and prosperity.
Each volcano is named after a ruler of the past: Mt. Latinon, Mt. Nanoloki, Mt. Elikilo, Mt. Jore Ara, Mt. Havanioe, Mt. Jordan, Mt. Alisha, Mt. Latikile, and the most recently named Mt. Laire Ara.
