Aina was born at the shores of the Kervallian Ocean on Othala, high above the white cliffs of Donil, where the castle of her father, Lord Uriens of Teshwan, is seated. As the second of three daughters, Aina didn't get much attention from her father, especially after her mother died while giving birth to her younger sister Gwenna, so the life at the castle was a quite lonesome one.

Raised as an othalan noble, Aina was taught in the arts of the nobles, in ettiquette and reading and writing several languages.

The servants and subjects of Clan Teshwan avoided her, for they were afraid of her abilities to sense other peoples emotions and to move quicker than any other human around. They believed her to have made a deal with evil forces and called her a witch. Her father didn't care much about her - he was too busy with trying to arrange an advantageous union with any of the great clans, for Clan Teshwan had lost most of its strenghth due to a lack of male heirs - until one of the servants mentioned Aina to be a witch in his presence by mistake.

He decided to contact the Jedi Council at Coruscant and send Aina there to be taught in the ways of the lightside.
