1) What is this board all about ?
The Order of The Oaken Dawn is a fellowship of creative writers that art working hand in hand in the creation of a legend. All the tales around this board art bits and pieces of a great plan, art woven together to one underground legend that is unfolding in the shadows of the Star Wars Trilogy. Our timeline starts after the Clone Wars and will stretch on beneath the trilogy's known happenings.
Though framed in the Star Wars Universe a great parts of the tale take place around Othala, a planet that is situated far off the mainstream and therefore hath preserved a good deal of its ancient and unique culture. Now the world is endangered to be invaded.. once again. By the empire.
So what thou findest here is the ageould tale of a long devided people that must be united and allied with numerous offworld factions in order to make a stand against an overwhelming power. A legend that is told on and on..
2) Universe & timeline
A millenium ago.
The new republic stood in full bloom. The order of jedi stood strong and in order to extinct all sith influence from this galaxy sent their lightful warriors to cleanse the worlds from all evil and in fact there were dark corners in the days of oulds - jetblack holes of crime and corruption. As there art in any era of humanoid existence.
The main power but that the Jedi order strived to vanquish was one perilous order of sith whose veiled influence and vile manipulation had poisoned and corrupted many a world. The ancient order of the serpent sith. For centuries had they been true to their lightful code.. yet the urgent longing to put and end to this dark menace let them take it to the extreme..
Soon enough, due to the serpents well conceiled and in fact homeless ways, the difference between these true sith and those who would just follow another but not the jedi's ould lightful religion would no longer be regarded as so relevant.
Soon enough they would all be referred to as colonies of infidels.. possible snakepits and eventually, in an effort to extinct the sith where they were believed to have their origin the lightful warriors of the ould order came down upon Othala. Upon the house of Zarkan, one of the planets greatest clans situated around the valleys under the true mountains that for different reasons was believed to breed the perilous serpents...
Trying to make a stand against the jedi with nothing more than crystalen
infused blades the Zarkan were soon outnumbered by the tenths and might in
fact have been extinquished.. as their allied houses approached the battlefield.
As an result an agreement was forged this day.
The surviving Zarkan, who were still believed to be the root of all evil [by
the jedi that is], had to leave their devastated and torched [the Jedi once
more - what would of course not appear in their records lateron] clanlands
to be resettled around the unknown regions of Kilia 4. To keep them from spreading
their 'darkness' over the galaxy they were not allowed starship technology.
The records were stricken and these people were lost and forgotten for a thousand
years.
The rest were dispersed throughout Othala where the Jedi established The Church of Cadaris to exterminate remaining and upcoming 'dark influences'. Yet although the Cadarian inquisition illuminated the lands with their just and truthful blade the so called dark orders never really died - they just went underground.. nevertheless.. judging from the surface Othala seemed purified and a few centuries later was pretty much forgotten.
A thousand sais passed.
The New Empire arose (after the Clone Wars) and is spreading throughout the galaxy. Kilia 4 was discovered by an Imperial scouting party in the Unknown Regions. They were looking for remote systems to make modular sections for their Death Star in secret (We art working on an Imperial board also).
Anyway, Othala was denied new technology since the Jedi/Republic invasion a thousand years ago. We inhabit Othala in a medieval setting [but do have 6 space ports spread out and communication satellites, etc]. This turned out to be in our favor for we remained true to our ways and code of honor.
Now but <b>the Empire</b> wants to take over our worlds and ravage our mother earth (<i>Sheia</i>) for her ressources. Loving our world and unwilling to become pawns to the man they call the emperor we art about to reunite the two lost worlds and form alliances of many kinds for we now have a common enemy, The Empire.
As mentioned before our legend fills the Shadows of the Trilogy. We do not seek recognition or long to be hailed as heroes. Let the Rebels have all the credit for the Empires downfall. We want our obscurity and to live in our worlds isolated from the corruption of the galaxy so that our precious culture may be preserved for another thousand years - or possibly until deep into an unknown future.
This is pretty much our story line. There is more... but thou wilt learn it all in due time. For example our differing views upon the nature of the midichloreans, the possible existence of ESP and why thou shouldst never argue with a white knight of cadaris.
3) As an applicant to TOD - what to do first ?
- read all five chapters included here
- think of what kind of character thou mightst take pleasure in
- post a nice little greeting around the 'Just say Hail' area of this board
The members of the fellowship wilt then come running to take thee by the hand and answer all the questions that might come up in the creation process.
4) What art the guidelines of these lands ?
1. As a fellowship we work hand in hand. There is no competition, there is companionship. There is no greed for rank or titles, there is the joy of writing.
2. All tales that art woven around TOD art part of one legend, that is why the raw plot of the tale is planned beforehand and moves that affect other writers characters shall only be made after the concerned writer's consent. Hereby no character wilt ever be harmed, killed or knighted against the concerned writer's will. If thou violatest this agreement and hereby botherest the storyline thou mightst be asked to edit or remove thy post.
3. Before thou jumpest into any thread we ask thee to post thy bio around the 'Char's Bios' area and receive thine allowance around the welcome post thou hast placed around the 'just say hail' forum.
4. Consider wise which level of abilities were adequate for the character
thou createst and do not fear thou couldst suffer disadvantages from writing
for a 'weak' character. Due to the above mentioned guidelines thou hast seen
that no one is intending to harm or compete and especially the two characters
who art foreseen to reveal/develop godlike powers in the course of the legend
[yes it is the two admins, Wallace and Saraquiel, guilty as charged] art perfectly
aware of the responsibility they carry hereby and would never abuse the powers
they were given [hopefully - for thus is another essence of our tale].
5) What happened thus far ?
Jerrid Syn Zarkan, heir to the dislocated house of Zarkan around Kilia 4, the above mentioned sisterworld hath returned to Othala and sought out the House of the McGreggor offering his knowledge and effort to prepare for a war against Palpatine, who hath already taken over Kilia 4 and wilt soon extend his hands towards Othala also.
Momentarily the driving forces of the lengend art gathering together in the course of a grand tournament taking place around the McGreggor territories, Albigan, Othala, that had been planned as a background to negotiations needed to reestablish an ould alliance amongst the McGreggor and the Ovkhan, the wild warriors of the eastern steppes and to hereby take a first step towards the necessary planetary unity.
This first tournament's day's atmosphere is tinted by the culture clash between the courtous western knights, the boisterous warriors of the east as well as a few more private meetings.
In the background however other forces art pursueing their interests and the snake hath long since found an agreeable home around the heart of Othala from where it is affecting the planetary politic in many a way..
